My Top 10 Songs to Run to Right Now

I HATE running. HATE it. Always have. But recently I’ve been getting bored with my workouts and I wanted to change things up a bit. So I have started running a mile whenever I can. Just a mile though. Baby steps. Don’t want to get too excited. It’s been a very hard challenge. After my first run I couldn’t even walk. I was limping around work more than the lady with the walker.

I’ve been running for a couple weeks at my gym on the treadmill even though I have a gym at my work. This past week I finally decided to put my lunch hour to good use and hit up the gym. It was pretty awkward – not going to lie. We have one gym rat in the office and he’s ALWAYS there. It almost feels like his gym and like I should have knocked before I went in! Anyway, that first day I forgot my headphones. The office gym rat blasts heavy metal and Nickelback from the stereo – out loud. So I was stuck there running on the treadmill listening to his awful, non motivating music. That run was THE worst. The next day I double and triple checked that I brought my headphones, and that turned out to be a MUCH easier run! It’s got to be the soundtrack!

Here’s my top 10 favorite songs to listen to currently:

1. Lean On – Major Lazer

2. Renegades – VHS

3. Crash and Burn – Thomas Rhett

4. Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon

5. Sugar – Maroon 5

6. Love Me Like You Do – Ellie Goulding

7. Somebody – Natalie La Rose

8. Dirty Work – Austin Mahone

9. Outside – Calvin Harris

10. I Want You to Know – Zedd

What songs are you listening to for your running soundtrack?! I’d love suggestions!

Happy running!

How to Beat The Monday Blues in 5 Ways

For me Mondays are rough. Well, let’s be honest, they’re rough for everyone; I’m no special case. And these Mondays after the holiday = ESPECIALLY difficult. So here’s how I try to deal.

1. Work it Out

IMG_3318

The first thing I HAVE to do Monday mornings is work out. Even if it’s only a short 15 minute cardio burst. I constantly remind myself that it’s only going to suck for those first 10 minutes while I try to pry myself out of bed and open my eyes. You know what all those fitness gurus say…”Never miss a Monday.” They’re right. It sets the mood for the whole week. So get off your sleepy butt and kick it in gear.

2. Hit up the Caffeine

I have got to get the brain tickin’ on a Monday, and for me, that’s going to be in a beautiful Starbuck’s cup. Although, being as broke as I am, I just discovered that Raley’s carries some Starbuck’s iced coffee drinks in jugs and they just so happen to have my go-to drink: Skinny Caramel Macchiato – for only $5.00! I buy one of those on Sunday and then drink it for the week. It tastes pretty much like the same thing as the actual Starbucks, but cheaper (yay for my wallet!). Anyhow, that caffeine really carries me through the day!

3. Turn up the Tunes

IMG_3119

I’m a little country girl when it comes to the music (more on that to come later). Sometimes in the morning while I’m putting on my makeup and ransacking my closet for an outfit I need a little bit more of a pep in my step, so I crank up the pop tunes. If it’s a slow one I skip it. I’m looking for something to dance to so I can make the morning routine more interesting. And there is nothing better than watching my god awful dance moves in the mirror.

4. Become a Worker Bee

Or at least pretend to be. It takes a few hours to get the work flow going again so fake it ’til you make it. Once I finally wake up and remember what it is I do on a daily basis the rest of the day flies by. Or at least skips a long quicker. Maybe?

5. Eat Ice Cream

When all else fails, eat some ice cream. It makes me happier and feel like a little happy fat kid. Lately at work we’ve had gallons of vanilla ice cream in the freezer and cases of root beer in the fridge = help yourself root beer float. It is delicious and definitely perks me up in the afternoon. And then what do you know…it’s 5:00 pm and…peace out – Monday over.

Any tips on how to overcome the Monday slump?

Good luck getting over your Monday blues! Look at the time…my Monday is over! Now Tuesdays are a different story…

How to Get Ready for the Fourth in 10 Ways

Biggest summertime kickoff for me? The Fourth of July! BBQs, beers, campfires, the sun, water, friends – how could it not kick off summer?

This year I’ll be heading up to my favorite place on Earth. Lake Tahoe. So what am I doing to prep for this glorious weekend?

1. Wardrobe.

I’ve got to break out all my red, white, and blue outfits. It’s the best/most appropriate day of the year right? Jean shorts, flip flops, American flag tank tops. Can’t forget a hat to keep the sun off my face and the aviators for eye protection! A cute sweatshirt for when the night cools down and some comfy pants.

2. Location.

This year I got lucky. My parents now have a cabin at the lake and they let us take it over for the weekend! Normally, it’s a rush decision to determine where to go. Downtown, fireworks show, river, lake, camping? The possibilities are endless and stressful, which is why I just picked a place this year and told the amigos they can come on up or do something else. There will be fireworks on the lake, which is a plus in my book!

3. Nails.

Cheesy, I know, but you’ve got to show your stripes around this time of year! Of course I am challenged when it comes to painting nails, which is why I’ll be opting out of the fancy designs and just go for a bold red.

4. Toes.

Don’t forget about the little piggies!! Since they’ll be seeing a lot of sun and sand this weekend, I want to make sure they’re ready for they’re debut with a nice fresh coat of polish to get them all prettied up!

5. Beverages.

Usually I would be on a quest to find a creative patriotic pretty American cocktail. This year I am sticking to the beer and the Bud Light Limes are calling to me! Just a nice, light, refreshing, budget friendly beer.

6. Hydration.

I try to drink at least 80 oz. of water a day (optimistically 100 oz.) as part of this health kick I’m on. Since I’ll be spending the weekend in the sun, I’m going to drink plenty of water this week and while I’m up at the lake! I’ll be sure to bring my 32 oz. Contigo water bottle to encourage more water intake.

7. Techie Accessories.

I never go on any trips without a couple of my favorite tech accessories. My JBL speaker – it’s perfect to bring and use in the cabin, while we’re sitting outside, or hanging at the beach. My selfie stick – and I am not ashamed to use it! It may be dorky and touristy but it’s a genius invention! And who cares if people I never will see again laugh at my selfie stick usage?! Not me! 🙂

8. Activities.

In Tahoe the possibilities are endless for how to fill your time. But it’s always a good ideas to plan some stuff out. We always pick out a hike to do before we go. This year we will also be able to take some kayaks out and ride bikes by the lake. There’s also always the option to bring my boyfriend’s jeep and jeep around on the trails!

9. Beaching Accessories.

I always bring my small camelback in my backpack just in case we end up walking farther to another beach. Can’t forget the beach towel to tan on and the sunscreen to prevent the burn! Putting the life proof case on the phone is always a good idea when you’re laying by the water too! Don’t forget your stylish sunnies too!

10. Friends.

Of course the last thing on my list is probably the key part to a fabulous holiday weekend. I need my peeps with me to make the memories and create the shenanigans!

And there you have it. My 10 ways to prep for the Fourth! Happy BBQ’n!
